Happy Father's Day

I know I’m almost a week late on this post but I wanted to share pictures I took on Wednesday night. To say that I’m proud of my father would be an understatement. I think for so long I have taken for granted all the skills and knowledge that he has passed onto to me not realizing that not everyone has been this lucky. On Wednesday night my family and I watched my Dad receive an award for an invention that he created for a woman with cerebral palsy.  She only has use of one side of her body and cannot feel her left arm and the device my father created helps her to clamp a stem so she can strip leaves and cut stems while using her right hand.

My father belongs to an association of retired engineers called The Tetra Society, which was founded by the former mayor of Vancouver Sam Sullivan back 1987. The Tetra Society recruits technically skilled volunteers who have made more than 5,000 custom made assistive devices for people with disabilities in locations through out North America. In his six years with Tetra has created over 30 devices or “gizmo’s”, the name given to them by the society.

Below are a few snapshots from the awards night.

This past weekend was a little stressful. I went to back up my main external hard drive and it wouldn't work. I tried to stay calm for the first hour while I switched up cords, rebooted my computer and any other lame attempts while I asked the nice black box holding all my photos to turn on. I'm pretty good at backing up my work so I knew I was only missing a few photo sessions with copies to customers already out there and my most recent session was still on my memory cards. I was really trying to avoid having to edit them all over again. I changed my Facebook status and called out for help which I received from many great friends and after running Disk Warrior on my drive for ten minutes today my drive was restored to normal thanks to Mike H. Now that I received a second chance I have been double checking all my files to make sure and I came across a few great pictures that I had totally forgot about. I take a lot.

If you don't already know Pilar Alvarez than you are missing out and should go straight to her website and check her out. Below is from a session we did together back in 2008.

Preview for Erin and Darius

It’s always really important to me that I click with my clients before their big day. They choose me to capture their most important day of their life and all the intimate details that go along with it. It is something that I don't take lightly. Erin and Darius are the perfect fit for me. Their personalities and sense of humor are a mirror image of mine.

A little preview for them until the rest of ready next week...

I must say that Facebook has been really good to me. Its how I connected with the family below. A friend from highschool recommended me to Rhonda and she called me. It was a few weeks ago when the weather actually felt like summer compared to what we are getting now. Her little one was so sweet which you can see for yourself below.

PS. Thanks Michelle.
